Civil Records
Each province has its own archives separate from Library and Archives Canada. You can find vital, tax and some land records among their holdings.
Vital records are called civil registrations
Canadian census were taken every 10 years beginning in 1851.
Canada began recording names of immigrants entering from the U.S. in 1908.
Records are currently available through 1921
Imigration Records
There are no comprehensive passenger lists of immigrants arriving in Canada before 1865.
From 1865 onward, immigration records include passenger lists and border entry records.
From 1919 – 1924, immigration records were recorded on indigvidual forms, 30 for border entries, 30A for ocean arrivals.
