The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) has WWII enlistment files

Draft Records

Congress passed a new Selective Service Act in 1941 requiring all males between 18 and 45 to register
For privacy reasons, most WWII registrations have not been made public
However, some records are available online at Fold3 and Ancestry

Prisoner of War Records

The Army Heritage and Education Center may contain some POW accounts
If you know what camp the person was held in, google the name of the camp. You may find a google group or blog dedicated to that camp
Axis History Forum has a forum for POW information
Pegasus Archive includes stories and photos of WWII POW experiences

The Digital Library of Georgia in partnership with the Southwest Georgia Regional Library has made available video recorded interviews from 50 WWII veterans from Bainbridge, GA. You can view the interviews on-line through YouTube
